Summary

Jackie and her family ate their way around Asia, sampling streetfood and jotting menu ideas on the back of napkins。 Inspired by the food cultures she embraced on her travels, Jackie has brought new life to healthy, meat- and dairy-free food, inspired by the sheer quantity of vegan food on offer in Asia。 Dotted with personal anecdotes from her travels, family photos and fascinating local information, Jackie takes us from India to Indonesia on a journey of tastes and textures, via Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia。 Recipes includes classic dishes that we might be already familiar with, such as Simple Sri Lankan Dal or Cauliflower and Kale Pakora, as well as regional specialities such as Oothapam (vegetable crumpets from South India) or Tahu Campur (Javanese fried tofu with cassava cakes)。 Street food is a central part of life in Asia。 It brings families and communities together from breakfast to dinner, through all the scrumptious snacks along the way。 With this book, you can bring this inspirational approach to feeding your family into your own kitchen, whipping up flavourful and wholesome bites。Celebrate vegan food in all its glory, without compromising on flavour or protein, or trying to makes substitutions for meat or fish。 That is the beauty of this collection of Asian streetfood - it is simply delicious, and it just so happens to be vegan。

Pure Food Porn! The pictures of the food are gorgeous, the recipes are luscious to read, but I will never make a single one of these recipes as written because the ingredients are so exotic, and so hard to find outside of the major metropolises。 Even if I were in NYC or LA, I probably wouldn't even know where to find these ingredients。 Probably best for me to travel to Asia。。。。。。 :-) Pure Food Porn! So a white woman travels Asia with her family and decides that the best way to celebrate and commemorate that is to engage in massive cultural appropriation for profit? To take the food and recipes of these cultures and use them to enlarge her bank account? To take family recipes given to her in friendship and camaraderie and then sell them for profit? Gross。 So, so gross。 Also, if you're a non-vegan writing a vegan cookbook, first of all, think twice。 But if you still decide you want to cash in on the plant-based trends or shove your non-vegan self into a seemingly-empty vegan niche, maybe don't repeatedly talk, throughout the book, about all the animal cruelty you engage in - er, all the animal products you still eat。The recipes do look amazing, but everything else about this book is NO。 。。。more

This may be the most beautiful cookbook I own。 The travel photos, page designs, and plating arrangements are complete eye-candy。 Jackie Kearney's stories are fascinating, and despite a number of potentially hard-to-find ingredients, the recipes are clearly written and easy to follow。 I wholeheartedly recommend this cookbook to all humans that eat! Magnificent。 I want to make everything。 And go to Asia。 I don't know what to do first! Every recipe sounds delicious, hearty and full of flavour。 A good reminder to those of us embracing a fully plant-based lifestyle to look to the cultures who do it so well, where vegan eating is a huge part of their culinary traditions。 I highly recommend this to all my vegan and vegetarian friends, you'll be very inspired。 There's even a recipe for vegan "fish" sauce。 Magnificent。 I want to make everything。 And go to Asia。 I don't know what to do first!
